Pune: The Faraskhana police in Pune have apprehended a gang responsible for the theft of 200 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs. 13.49 lakh from various shops designated for hallmarking. All stolen items were recovered from the arrested individuals. Investigation revealed that the accused, Lucky Dattatray Mohite, Sachin Mohan Dadas, Vishal Bhagwat Gosavi, Atul Dattatray Kshirsagar, and Suraj Bhagwan Mahajan, were employed at the New Trishul Hallmarking Centre in Ganesh Peth, where the incident occurred on Wednesday. The arrest came after Sulabha Suresh Mane (48) of Shaniwar Peth lodged a complaint at the Faraskhana Police Station.
The police discovered that the stolen jewelry, intended for hallmarking, was taken from various goldsmith shops in the city. Through CCTV footage and technical investigations, the police tracked the accused to the Malshiras area and arrested them. Following the retrieval of the stolen goods, the accused were brought to Pune, leading to the resolution of the case within twelve hours. Lucky Mohite, the primary suspect, is employed at the New Trishul Hallmarking Centre, while Sachin Dadas, a former employee, orchestrated the theft plan. The accused were presented in court and granted four days of police custody.
