Today, October 21st, marks Police Martyr’s Day, a highly significant occasion for the police department. On this day in 1959, in the Ladakh region, at a place known as Hot Springs on the border, 10 CRPF jawans were tragically killed in an attack by Chinese soldiers. Since then, every year on October 21, we observe Police Martyrs Memorial Day to honor their memory. This observance is a standard practice.
Police Martyrs’ Day is a time when the entire police force pays homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, pledging to continue their cause. It stands as a steadfast platform. These valiant individuals risk their lives to safeguard society. The sight of policemen in their khaki uniforms, resembling common friends of the people, instills courage akin to a mountain in those facing peril. Instances of policemen selflessly giving up their own loved ones and children for the duty at hand are nothing short of supreme acts of sacrifice. These are the moments we remember the martyrdom of Amarajavan.
Since the conflict with China, there has been an unending battle for internal security between the living and the departed. Memorial Day serves as a day to honor the contributions of those who gave their lives as sentinels for the protection of righteousness. Hats off to the policemen who, in defense of the public, exhibited valor and gallantry, embracing their professional duty while concealing their compassion and tears within their khaki attire. Let us always remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty, whether in terrorist attacks or at the hands of unscrupulous forces.
