<![CDATA[Chennai: The DGP office was the venue where the Police Commemoration Day was observed in Chennai. The DGP, the other top police office and retired officials placed wreaths in front of the police memorial and honored the deceased police officers on October 21. It was for the first time that the families of policemen who died while on duty also took part in the programme and paid their respects to their near and dear ones. The programme started at 8 a.m. and senior police officers and retired officers participated. Director General of Police Mr. T.K. Rajendran said that a total of 414 policemen laid down their lives in the line of duty in the past year. He read out the martyrs’ names who were from all over the country. Mr. A.K. Viswanathan, City Police Commissioner, visited Inspector Mr. S. Periyapandian’s house, who was killed last year while in Rajasthan to arrest a notorious burglar.]]>
