Khargone: On June 23, 2024, Inspector General of Police Indore Zone (Rural) Mr. Anurag and Deputy Inspector General of Police Nimar Range Khargone Mr. Atul Singh directed actions to curb cow smuggling. Following these orders, Superintendent of Police Khargone Mr. Dharmaraj Meena, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Mr. Tarunendras Singh Baghel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mr. Manohar Singh Baria, and all Sub-Divisional Officers of Police and Station Incharges were instructed to take effective measures. Consequently, an operation against cow smugglers was conducted at Maheshwar police station.
On June 22, 2024, Maheshwar police station received a tip-off that cattle were being transported in three trucks and one Eicher vehicle from Amritsar (Punjab) to Solapur (Maharashtra) for slaughter. Acting swiftly, the police set up a checkpoint on AB Road near Kakadada Chowki and began inspections. Soon, as per the informer’s details, an Eicher vehicle with registration No. PB-02-EL-8277 and three trucks with registration numbers PB-02-CR-9192, PB-11-CU-3635, and PB-13-AR-1499 were intercepted. Upon inspection, the cows were found cruelly crammed inside, with their necks tied with ropes to the vehicle’s upper iron parts. The drivers and passengers failed to present valid permits and admitted that the cows were loaded by Sukhdev Singh alias Kaka and Jaan in Majitha Amritsar, Punjab, for slaughter in Solapur, Maharashtra, to earn money.
A total of 50 cows were rescued, and a criminal case was registered under the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act and Section 11g of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against 11 accused. The police arrested nine individuals, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the remaining two. The arrested individuals were presented before the honorable court. The rescued cows, valued at approximately Rs.15,00,000/-, along with the seized vehicles worth approximately Rs.90,00,000/-, amounted to a total seizure worth approximately Rs.1,05,00,000/. The cows were handed over to Bal Gopal Gaushala Nimrani.
The accused were identified as Gulshan (26), Haval (21), Vishal (20), Baljinder Singh (27), Sunny (24), Rinku (32), Gaurav (32), Joyal (19), and Johan Singh (24), all residents of Punjab.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of SDOP Mandleshwar Mr. Manohar Gawli and the leadership of Maheshwar police station in-charge Mr. Pankaj Tiwari, along with SI Mithun Chauhan, SI Kamal Singh Chauhan, PR 464 Kishore Mandloi, PR 736 Prakash More, R. 295 Lalchand, R. 174 Appu, R. 325 Punamchand, R. 545 Aprit, R. 480 Ashish, R. 590 Anil, R. 772 Indrajit, R. 549 Sandeep, R. 390 Sandeep, R. 516 Pritam, and R. Abhilash Cyber Cell Khargone, who made commendable contributions.
