Tiruchi: Idol Wind CID has apprehended a priest of Shri Ekambareswarar temple for his miscreant task of replacing the ancient idols of Simaskandar and Elavarkuzhali in Kancheepuram. He is under strong acquisition that the antiquity idols persevered for making new temple have been loot by him. On his return from Canada, the immigration officials at Mumbai International Airport caught him and handed him over to the High Court-appointed Special Investigation team for further investigation, for being-accused of idol theft instance in the state. Mr. Rajappa had escaped to Canada for 20 days without seeking prior permission from the High Court and due information to SIT according to Idol Wing CID report. He was presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district in the last hours of Saturday and imprisoned in Tiruchi Central Prison. The temple gold worth around 8.7kg at the value of 2.82 crore. In the statement, The Idol Wing CID mentioned that they had earlier arrested the accused former Commissioner of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, M. Veera Shanmuga Moni, and Additional Commissioner Kavitha, besides ‘Sthapathi’ Muthaiah and ‘Sthanigar’ Rajappa. Although, Idol Wing CID submitted well-informed case against ‘Sthanigar’ Rajappa, the SIT have variant dispute on this account and age factor is its prior concern. ]]>
