Vijayawada: The city police have denied permission for the ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ program announced on February 3 by the PRC Sadhana Samithi, a joint working committee of all the unions. Vijayawada Police Commissioner Mr. Kanti Rana Tata IPS said they had received an application for permission but could not allow such large gatherings due to the corona contagious situation.
Mr. Kanti Rana said that a large number of Kovid-19 positive cases were being registered in the city and the cases were likely to increase further if the employees were allowed to march. “If such programs are allowed, not only employees but also their family members are at risk of contracting the virus,” he added.
The City Police Chief said 200 people were not allowed to gather as per the guidelines issued by the state and central governments. He said the ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ program could not be sanctioned as it was likely to be attended by more than 5,000 employees.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Kanti Rana Tata has warned that if a procession of more than five people is in force as it is in force under Section 30 and Section 144 of the Police Act in Vijayawada, it will not only violate the law but also be a violation of police service rules.
