Bengaluru: In the wake of the assembly elections, those who possess firearms should be compulsorily handed over to the police station. A 55-year-old businessman was shocked to find his licensed revolver stolen when police asked him to surrender his gun.
B Bavadeep Reddy, a businessman based in Koramangala, . Has a value around Rs 1.25 lakh NP BORE .32 German made revolver. He had obtained permission from the Bangalore City Police Commissioner’s office in August 2015 to own a gun, and since then he had been renewing his gun license. He was living in Basavanagudi at that time. Later in 2016, he shifted to Koramangala 3rd Block.
Reddy lost the revolver and lodged a complaint with the Koramangala police station. In August 2021, he suspected he had lost his gun while renovating a bathroom at his residence.
Reddy received a call from the Basavanagudi police and asked him to hand over the revolver. After searching the entire house, he realized that it was missing and also inquired about his mother, wife and other family members. He lodged a complaint suspecting the involvement of four laborers who had come as laborers to renovate the bathroom of his house.
The complainant claimed that ‘I used to stay at RV Road in Basavanagudi when I got the gun license earlier.’
Guns should be handed over to Basavanagudi police station during voting. He was licensed for self-defense in August 2015. Since then, he has been following the license terms and conditions by renewing it,” said an official.
It may be noted that Reddy stayed in Basavanagudi from 1996 to 2016 and then shifted to Koramangala. Since the pandemic in 2020, he has kept it in his bedroom cupboard.
A case of theft under IPC Section 380 was registered on Reddy’s complaint. The official said that the reason for losing the gun was the complete negligence of the complainant. Further investigations are going on in this regard.
