<![CDATA[In full public view, a 47-year-old person was hacked to death by a gang in West Mambalam when he was taking his daughter to college by two-wheeler on Tuesday. His 18-year-old daughter, who defended the attack, was injured. The attack was carried out by a gang of four persons in one of the busiest areas of the city. Police told Kandan, 47, a resident of Naikanmar street, West Mambalam, ran a cable television business. At 7 a.m. on Tuesday, he was taking his daughter Keerthana, 18, to her college in Adyar. While they were crossing the Muthallamman temple near Lake View Road, a motorcyle-borne duo wearing helmets came in the opposite direction and collided with Kandan’s vehicle. In the impact, Kandan and his daughter fell down. The duo, along with two others, who came in an auto, started attacking Kandan with knives. Ms. Keerthana, who tried to resist the attackers, suffered cut injuries. The gang reportedly waited till they confirmed that Kandan was dead. Panick-stricken, Ms. Keerthana raised an alarm, but no one came to render assistance. A cyclist who crossed the road informed police personnel at a nearby police booth. The assailants escaped from the place. The police personnel who rushed to the spot recovered the body and sent it to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Police are analysing CCTV footage. A sniffer dog was deployed to get clues on the suspects.]]>
