Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, November 12: To create awareness among the public about the ill effects of drug abuse and to eradicate narcotics from society, the “Abhyudayam Cycle Rally” was launched across the districts of Anakapalle, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Srikakulam in the Visakhapatnam Range.

The rally, an initiative conceptualized by Visakhapatnam Range DIG Shri Gopinath Jatti, IPS, was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Home Minister Smt. Highlights of the Event:

* The rally will continue for 30 days, covering over 1,000 kilometers across five districts under the leadership of District SP Shri Tuhin Sinha, IPS.

* A team of 25 police personnel will cycle through major towns, villages, and educational institutions to promote anti-drug awareness.

* Flash mobs, cultural programs, and awareness meetings are being held to engage students and the general public.

Home Minister Smt. Vangalapudi Anitha’s Address:

“The efforts of Andhra Pradesh Police in eradicating drugs are commendable. Our youth are the future — it is our duty to safeguard them from the menace of drugs. The State Government has taken decisive measures through initiatives like the ‘Eagle’ System to monitor and prevent drug trafficking.

Anyone aware of drug transportation or consumption is urged to call 1972 immediately — the police will act without delay. Let’s say ‘No to Drugs – Yes to Life.’”

Visakhapatnam Range DIG Shri Gopinath Jatti, IPS, said:

“This Abhyudayam Cycle Rally marks a historic step towards a drug-free Andhra Pradesh. Through collective efforts, we have drastically reduced cannabis cultivation in agency areas by promoting alternative crops.

Over 46.8 lakh plants have been distributed for cultivation across 10,817 acres, and cannabis cultivation has been completely eliminated in several areas. In the last 14 months, 2,500 offenders were arrested in 865 cases, and assets worth ₹10 crore were seized from traffickers.

Our awareness drive, ‘Sankalpam’, has reached over 10 lakh citizens through 18,314 programs, spreading the message of a drug-free society.”

District SP Shri Tuhin Sinha, IPS, stated:

“The rally aims to sensitize people about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking. During the 30-day journey, we will organize interactive awareness sessions and cultural events at schools and mandals.

Citizens are encouraged to report any information about drugs to the toll-free numbers 1972 or 112. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Home Minister, DIG Shri Gopinath Jatti, and all officers, students, and volunteers supporting this noble cause.”

Program Participants

The event witnessed participation from Additional SP L. Mohan Rao, DSPs M. Sravani, P. Srinivasa Rao, V. Vishnu Swaroop, Mahila Police Station DSP E. Srinivasulu, Inspector Appanna, excise officials, students, and a large number of police personnel and public representatives.
