Kerala, Wayanad: Police Commemoration Day was observed by the Wayanad District Police, led by District Police Chief Mr. Taposh Basumatari IPS, to honor the policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony took place on the morning of October 21, with a Remembrance Day parade held at the DHQ camp in Kalpatta . The district police chief laid a floral wreath at the Smriti Mandapam. The names of 214 military personnel from across the country who sacrificed their lives between 01.09.2023 and 31.08.2024 were read out and honored.
The observance of Police Memorial Day on October 21 traces back to the India-China dispute in 1959, when ten policemen lost their lives resisting an attack by the Chinese army while searching for missing officers at the hot spring in Ladakh.
Additional District Police S.P. T.N. Sajeev, along with DYSPs P.L. Shaiju (Special Branch), Dilip Kumar Das (D CRB), M.K. Bharathan (Narcotics Cell), M.K. Suresh Kumar (Crime Branch), Abdul Karim (SMS), P. Bijuraj (Kalpatta sub-division), and K.K. Abdul Sharif (Batheri sub-division), as well as inspectors from various stations and units, participated in the commemoration ceremony.
As part of this year’s Police Commemoration Day, various events were planned, including an Ekta Day and Police Flag Day digital poster-making competition for SPC cadets on October 22, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kakkavyal Jawan Memorial Hall on October 25, a visit to the residence of brave Jawan Mr. Vasanthakumar, who died in the Pulwama terror attack, on October 26, and a visit to Shibu’s residence with floral tributes at the Smriti Mandapam of Lakiti L.P. School on October 28, as announced by the district police chief.
