JALANDHAR: Two peddlers of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthal were arrested by the counter-intelligence (CI) wing police on the charges of an inter-state consignment of drug and confiscated 1 kg heroin from them. Police raided the racket that was operated by a Nigerian National who was under the captive of Kapurthala jail. CI Assistant Inspector General of Police reported that they had been informed about the smuggling of consignment of drug in a Tata Sumo vehicle in Sherpur Dona to Talwandi Madho. The information was shared immediately with Kapurthala SSP Satinder Singh; and a joint team of CI and SUltanpur Lodhi police obstructed the vehicle in the area and arrested the duo. The person involved in the smuggling were Gurvinder Singh from Noorpur Hakima village, Moga district and Ranjit Singh of Mehajpur village from Jalandhar, who had links with Delhi-based Nigerian smugglers. During the interrogation, police was revealed that the persons involved in the smuggling case had been into illegal trade of drug smuggling for the past few years and cases had been registered against them earlier. The duo had been imprisoned for the same matter and later they were released on bail. While in jail, they met the Nigerian smugglers and since then contacted Nigerian national Victor, imprisoned in Kapurthala jail, after being released. After the arrest of the duo, police conducted a search on Victor in jail and snatched two mobile phones and a SIM card. Police have registered a case against them and against Victor regarding recovery of mobile phone from him.]]>
