To circumvent the security check, a wildlife smuggler allegedly dropped two bags near the National Travels bus at the Karashipalya bus stop in Bengaluru City and escaped from the scene.
The man who weighed his luggage noticed that two suitcases had been left unattended, and one of them searched the suitcases and found about 170 star tortoises in it.
The man then immediately took the two bags and went to the Kalasipalya police station, handing him a starter, a species protected by the Indian Wild Life Conservation Act.
The turtle was then transferred to the Bannerghatta National park Rescue Center with the help of police.
