Kochi: In Kochi, Kerala police successfully rescued a 25-year-old man who attempted to hang himself after posting a suicide note on Reddit. The incident unfolded when the young man, overwhelmed by financial difficulties and frustration over unemployment, shared his intent online. Abhishek, a Kochi resident, noticed the post and promptly informed his wife Gaurilakshmi, a clerk at the Ernakulam Range DIG Putta Vimaladitya’s office.
The DIG then instructed Ernakulam Rural District Police Superintendent Vaibhav Saxena to locate and assist the individual. Despite initial challenges, the cyber police team of Ernakulam rural district reached out to Reddit, who quickly provided the necessary information, including the man’s mobile number. Learning that the man’s residence fell under the jurisdiction of Mulavukad station in Ernakulam City, Saxena notified the Kochi City Police. Within an hour, the police arrived at the scene, finding the man in the final stages of his suicide attempt. They managed to dissuade him and, along with his mother, arranged for counseling. The police expressed relief that timely intervention saved a life.
