Hassan, Andhra Pradesh: In a major crackdown on inter-state smuggling, the Task Force team seized red sanders logs worth approximately ₹5 crore and arrested eight smugglers during a special operation in Hassan district.
Acting on leads in Crime No. 02/2026, the Task Force team conducted searches in Siddapura and Haratanahalli villages of Arsikere taluk to trace absconding accused. With the assistance of the Karnataka Police, a nearby godown was inspected.
On noticing the arrival of the police team, several individuals present at the location attempted to escape in three vehicles. However, the Task Force personnel swiftly chased and apprehended eight persons, while a few others managed to flee from the spot.
Based on the information provided by the arrested accused, police searched an open shed resembling a poultry farm nearby. During the search, officials seized 195 red sanders logs weighing about 8 tonnes, along with cutting equipment, scrap material, and three vehicles used for illegal transportation. The total value of the seized red sanders is estimated at around ₹5 crore.
Appreciating the successful operation, Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS, Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh Police, commended the officers and staff involved and directed that strict action be continued against inter-state red sanders smuggling networks.
Police also appealed to the public to extend cooperation by sharing information to help curb illegal smuggling activities.
