New Delhi: The Delhi Police seized illicit liquor and arrested two men in connection with its possession. The quantity of illicit liquor seized is 3,948 quarters. The seizure took place in west Delhi, the police said on Friday. A senior police officer said that in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi police had launched a special drive against illicit liquor. On receiving a confidential piece of information, the Moti Nagar police station staff, on Thursday got involved in checking vehicles at Bali Nagar red light picket near Raja Garden Chowk and zeroed in on a car. The police on searching the car recovered a total of 51 cartons of 2,508 quarters, each containing 180 ml liquor, with the label ‘for sale in Haryana only’. The police said that the driver of the car was identified as Raj Kumar Giri, a resident of Uttam Nagar and the police registered a case against him. The driver, Giri had a previous record as he was earlier involved in a case under Delhi Excise Act, the officer added.]]>
