<![CDATA[VELLORE: Recently Jamunamaruthur Police on Monday seized six country made guns during a search at Nammiyampattu in Jawadhu Hills in Tamil Nadu. A search was carried out in and around Nammiyampattu panchayat by a team headed by Inspector Rajagopal and they seized six single-barrel muzzle-loading guns from a farmland. "The villagers had abandoned the guns anticipating police action. A Police officer said, ‘’The drive was carried out after shootouts being reported in the recent past". A few days ago, the police had seized five guns from a tribal hamlet. Three people, including a government teacher and a woman, had sustained pellet injuries recently. The teacher had sustained pellet injuries in a misfire. The woman was injured after a relative opened fire at her following a property dispute. In the third incident, a 23-year-old man reportedly opened fire at his neighbour when they were hunting for meat. The police had formed special teams to locate and seize country-made guns, said Deputy Superintendent of Police of Polur subdivision. The DSP said, "We have also sought the support of village elders to persuade residents to surrender their guns and avoid legal action".]]>
