<![CDATA[In a move to prevent crime, Coimbatore City Police have decided to open history sheets on persons who are involved in more than two offenses, especially property offenses. The history sheets will be updated and shared with the police in other cities. City Police Commissioner Mr.K. Periaiah told that the initiative would help detection of cases apart from preventing crimes. He told that after creating the history sheets, the offenders will be monitored by the police and called to the station at frequent intervals to check their current status and occupation. If someone with a history sheet is missing for a long period, his details will be shared to other police stations for monitoring. Similarly, we have also intensified jail intelligence wherein details of those released and persons visiting offenders at prison are collected. Mr. Periaiah told that 43 persons were arrested under Goondas Act so far in the current year, while the number of such detentions were 19 in the same period last year. The police have already collected details of 147 chain snatchers and 117 burglars in Coimbatore city in the last five years. Of these at least nine were detained under Goondas Act and Section 399 of the IPC (Making preparation to commit dacoity).]]>
