AGRA: A video featuring a violent mob assaulting a Sub-Inspector with lathi and chasing him for several hundred meters after a hutment was gutted in a fire accident at a village in the Etah district has gone viral on the internet. The incident took place at Nagla Banjara in Jaithra area on Wednesday. The Policeman has been identified as Sub Inspector N D Tiwari with three other colleagues. Tiwari was the firsts to reach the village after receiving a fire distress call. The SI is seen being attacked by the violent mob, thrashing him with lathi, punching and kicking him. The mob even chases him while he tries to save himself from the deadly attack. Mr. Satyarth Aniruddha Pankaj, Senior Superintendent of Police, Etah said, “It was a deliberate and politically motivated attack to humiliate the cop by men who were not even residents of the village or the victims whose huts were gutted by fire”. “The SI was just doing his job. He was trying to calm down the crowd and control the situation while the fire tender was on its way to spot, but the miscreants, who gathered from different villages, assaulted him as they were supposedly infuriated over the delay in arrival of tenders”, the SSP said. SSP sent two Police officers to the police line who had gone to the spot along with the SI but they fled away seeing the unruly crowd. “The two head constables were old and were scared. Since they left their colleague alone in crises, we have sent them to the police line,” said SSP. Two men have been detained by Police. More than twelve men were booked under Section 147(Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 307 (Attempt to murder), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC. The injured SI is in stable condition. ]]>
