Hyderabad City: On behalf of the Hyderabad City Commissioner of Police, Mr. K. Sreenivasa Reddy IPS, the Traffic Police would like to inform the public that, as part of our commitment to curbing environmental pollution and enhancing road safety, the Traffic Police of the North District has initiated rigorous measures to address the illegal modification of motorcycle silencers. Through our Special Drives, a total of 1910 cases have been registered, with approximately 1000 modified silencers seized from violators, all of which will be disposed of.

The modification of silencers on motorcycles not only contravenes traffic regulations but also significantly contributes to environmental degradation. Altering or removing silencers results in heightened noise levels and increased air pollution, posing serious health risks to individuals and communities.

Despite being perceived as a style statement by some, the installation of pressure horns and modified silencers on motorbikes can cause distractions and panic among pedestrians and fellow road users. Such actions not only impact immediate safety but also have long-term health consequences. Studies have shown a direct correlation between noise pollution, particularly from traffic, and various cardiovascular and psychological ailments, underscoring the urgency of addressing this issue.

Authorized silencers offer several advantages, including noise reduction, emission control, and compliance with legal standards. Conversely, modified silencers exacerbate noise levels, escalate emissions, and carry legal implications, as outlined by recent amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act.

In accordance with Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act, fitting pressure horns and modified silencers that exceed 80 decibels is punishable with fines of up to Rs. 10,000 and imprisonment for up to six months.

We urge all media outlets to amplify awareness of the importance of using authorized silencers through their platforms. Additionally, we call upon all motorcycle owners to comply with regulations and opt for authorized silencers, thereby contributing to the reduction of air pollution, promoting healthier communities, and fostering a safer and more sustainable environment. We extend our gratitude to the public for their cooperation in our efforts to uphold environmental conservation and road safety standards.
