PUDUCHERRY: Mr. Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs today called upon union territory government of Puducherry to make plans to modernize its Police force and pledged the Centre’s support in this regard. He said, the Central government would provide necessary financial assistance to the Puducherry government in its efforts to equip the Police with latest technologies. This will help tackle any type of crime without hiccups, he said during the passing out parade of India Reserve Battalion personnel here. The Minister Mr. Ahir lauded the Puducherry Police for maintaining law and order ‘well’. “I congratulate the Puducherry Police for their excellent role in ensuring a peaceful Puducherry”. The initiatives of Lt Governor Kiran Bedi in the implementation of `Swachch Bharat Abhiyan` were also praised by the Minister. Chief Minister V Narayanasamy’s leadership and the Lt Governor should be utilized by the people for the progress of the Union Territory, he said. Lt Governor of Puducherry government Kiran Bedi Bedi said, she was happy that nearly 98 women candidates had volunteered to become part of the Police force and 303 personnel now inducted in the constable rank were recruited through transparent and fair selection mode. Puducherry’s Chief Minister Mr V Narayanasamy sought the Union Home Ministry`s support to further strengthen Puducherry Police force. The Director General of Police, Puducherry, Mr. S K Gautam highlighted the role of police in various activities and social service programmes. Mr.M.
