Amritsar, Punjab: In a major blow to Pakistan’s ISI-backed terror networks, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have successfully busted an extortion and terror module linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative Jeevan Fauji. This decisive action underscores Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public safety and neutralizing extremist threats.
Acting on credible intelligence, police teams apprehended two key associates of the BKI operative — Karajpreet Singh of Verowal, Tarn Taran, and Gurlal Singh alias Harman of Goindwal Sahib, Tarn Taran. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused were actively involved in a cross-border extortion racket orchestrated by Jeevan Fauji, targeting individuals in Punjab’s sensitive border areas.
Jeevan Fauji, a known BKI operative, had provided a .30 bore pistol to his associates and instructed them to open fire at a furniture shop in Amritsar as a warning in an extortion bid. The target was reportedly a relative of the shop owner residing in Canada, from whom a ransom was being demanded.
During the investigation, based on the disclosure by Gurlal Singh, police took him to recover the weapon used in the offence. In a dramatic turn of events, the accused attempted to open fire on the police team. Exercising restraint and acting in self-defence, police responded, during which Gurlal sustained a gunshot injury to his left leg. He was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital, Amritsar, where he is receiving treatment.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the network’s remaining operatives and financiers. The Punjab Police continue their relentless efforts to root out terror elements and maintain peace and harmony in the region.
“We are committed to protecting every citizen from threats of terror and extortion. Our forces will not rest until these networks are completely dismantled,” said a senior police official.
