Punjab, Tarn Taran: In a major crackdown on drug financing, Tarn Taran District Police busted a drug and hawala syndicate, arresting five individuals and seizing illegal weapons, narcotics, and cash. During the operation, the accused opened fire on the police, prompting a swift retaliatory response. In self-defense, two suspects sustained leg injuries and were given immediate medical care.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Iqbal Singh, a key hawala operator linked to Dubai-based drug cartels. He admitted to funneling Rs.50 crore over three months to fund cross-border drug smuggling. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and BNS.
The recoveries included 7 kg opium, 3 pistols (30 bore) with 6 magazines, Rs.23.10 lakh in drug proceeds, a currency counting machine, and more. Punjab Police is systematically dismantling the drug trade and remains committed to eliminating organized crime.
