Puri: The police in Puri, Odisha have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to curb crime in the area. Notorious criminal Manua Mohanty and four members of his gang were arrested in a coordinated operation, which saw the seizure of several arms and ammunition.
According to reports, the gang was planning to commit multiple dacoities in the area, but their plans were thwarted thanks to precise intelligence-based information. Acting on this information, the Puri police launched an operation to catch the gang members, which led to their arrest at a hideout near Huluhulia bridge in Talabania area of the town.
During the operation, the police seized three semi-automatic pistols, ten rounds of live ammunition, some sharp weapons, and mobile phones from the five arrested persons. Speaking about the incident, Puri SP K Vishal Singh confirmed that the gang was active in Puri and neighboring districts and had been on the police radar for some time.
Manua Mohanty, in particular, has at least 18 cases registered against him in different police stations, making his arrest a significant achievement for the police. The other four arrested persons were identified as Soumyaranjan Biswal of Jagatsinghpur, Milan Mishra of Raghupati Nagar, Deepak Suar of Suar Sahi, and Neelu Barik of Markandeswar Sahi.
The Puri police had been trying to nab the gang members for the last four weeks, and finally, their efforts paid off with this successful operation. The arrests have been lauded by the local community, who have praised the police for their efforts in ensuring the safety and security of residents in the area.
