Rachakonda: Interstate spurious seeds racket transporting from Karnataka to Telangana via AP state busted-two habitual offenders of Telangana and AP arrested while supplier from Karnataka is absconding-seized 15 quintals of spurious cotton bt3-seeds, one Honda City car, two mobile phones from their possession all worth Rs.30,00,000/-.
As a proactive approach towards curbing the spurious seeds, acting on a specific information, the sleuths of Special Operations Team (SOT), LB Nagar Zone along with officials of agricultural department and Vanasthalipuram Police conducted surprise and joint raid and nabbed Two habitual offenders namely Mannem Laxmi Narayana(48) of Andhra Pradesh and, Namburi Srinivasa Rao(50) of Telangana at Mansoorbad under the limits of Vanasthalipuram police station while they were transporting and indulging in illegal storage of spurious cotton seeds in order to sell the same to gullible farmers. The Police seized 30 bags containing around 15 Quintals of spurious (BT-3) cotton seeds. HT cotton is banned by Government and no permission to sell it in market. The absconding accused is Narayana Reddy of Kolar district, Karnataka State. A case was registered under Environment Protection Act, 1986 of Vanasthalipuram Police Station.
The Police seized Spurious Cotton (BT-3) Seeds 30 Bags which is approximately 15 Quintals, Honda City bearing registration No AP-07-CY-7640 and 2 Mobile Phones.
The accused Mannem Laxmi Narayana son of Appa Rao is a native of Shanthi Nagar village, Wadapally Mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district. At present, he is residing at Kamalanagar Colony, Sahara Estates, Mansoorabad, L.B. Nagar. He is having friendship with Namburi Srinivas Rao for the last ten years. Since, three years they are illegally procuring Spurious and banned BT-3 cotton seeds from Karnataka State and selling the same to the gullible farmers of Telangana, Maharashtra and Orissa States illegally by inducing them that the seed will raise crop more than the permitted seed. About two days back, both the accused purchased the spurious and banned BT-3 seeds at Rs.550/- per kg from one Narayana Reddy R/o. Gudipally (V), Beerangi Post, B. Kothakota (M), Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. N/o. Nagireddypalli, Kolar district, Karnataka State and transported the same to Mannem Laxmi Narayana’s house at Mansoorbad and making attempts to sell it to the farmers for Rs.1200/- per kg without any valid license under Seed Act 1966.
During the year 2019, the Mannem Laxmi Narayana did this illegal activity in the erstwhile Khammam district. For which, 6 criminal cases were registered against him in Tekulapally Police Station, Burgampadu Police Station and Ashwaraopuram Police Station. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody and all those cases are pending trial. However, he did not mend his way and procuring the BT-3 cotton seed to the gullible farmers.
The accused Mannem Lakshmi Narayana was detained under PD Act by Rachakonda Police in year 2020 of Seeds (Control) Order-1983, Clause-7 of Fertilizers (Control) Order-1985, Sec.3(2)(d) of EC Act-1955 & Sec.29(1)(c) of Insecticides Act-1968 of Kandukur Police Station of Rachakonda Commissionerate. He was also arrested by Nalgonda Town, Gurrampode and Peddavoora police stations of Nalgonda district.
The accused Namburi Srinivasa Rao is absconding in the case registered at Nalgonda Town of Nalgonda district.
On 1.5.2022 at evening hours, the both the arrested accused loaded 2 bags of spurious cotton seed containing around One Quintal in the Honda City Car bearing registration No. AP-07-CY-7640 belonging to Mannem Laxmi Narayana and while they were planning to proceed to sell the same to the gullible farmers they were apprehended at the Mannem Lakshmi Narayana’s house at Mansoorabad and seized from the vehicle along with spurious seed under a cover of panchanama.
Further, on interrogation they confessed to have procured 15 Quintals of banned BT-3 cotton seeds from Narayana Reddy resident of Gudipally (V), of Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. N/o. Nagireddypalli, Kolar district, Karnataka State and the remaining 28 bags of spurious BT-3 cotton seeds around 14 quintals are stored in his residence, the same was seized under a cover of panchanama at their instance in the presence of mediators.
The above arrests were made under the supervision of Mr. Mahesh M Bhagwat, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, Mr. G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, under the guidance of Mr. Sunpreeth Singh, IPS., DCP, LB Nagar Zone and under Mr. K. Muralidhar, DCP, Special Operations Team, Rachakonda, Mr. D. Venkanna Naik, ACP, SOT, Rachakonda, Mr. K. Purushotham Reddy, ACP, Vanasthalipuram Division in the presence of Agriculture officers Mrs. M. Sujatha, ADA, Maheshwaram and Mr. A. Saklesh, Mandal Agriculture Officer. Saroor Nagar (M), RR district, by Mr. K. Sathyanarayana, Inspector of Police, Vanasthalipuram Police Station, Mr. B. Anji Reddy, Inspector of Police, Mr. Mohd. Thakiuddin, Sub-Inspector of Police and staff of Special Operations Team, LB Nagar zone, Rachakonda.
