Telangana, Rachakonda: The Rachakonda Police have successfully arrested an inter-state gang involved in multiple attention diversion thefts, primarily targeting elderly and middle-aged women. The gang operated across various locations, employing deceptive tactics to rob unsuspecting victims of their valuables.
On 21/01/2025, a theft and robbery case was reported at Bhongir Town Police Station. The incident took place at Bhongir bus stand, where five suspects engaged the victim in a misleading conversation, diverting her attention and stealing her gold chain.
The gang used a young boy to initiate conversations with victims in public places, often seeking directions or help. He displayed a bundle of cash, with real currency layered between paper notes, offering the money in exchange for the victim’s ornaments. Meanwhile, other gang members pressured the victim to comply. Before realizing the scam, the victim was left without her valuables as the gang swiftly fled. Additionally, alprazolam was allegedly used to manipulate victims, and the drug was found in the possession of the accused.
Investigations linked the gang to seven similar cases reported across Hyderabad in the past two months. On 29/01/2025, the following individuals were arrested:
Gujarathi Kishan (24), S/o Shankar, resident of Gujarat.
Ram Lal (42), S/o Chunni Lal Rathod, resident of Delhi.
Shyam Lal (30), S/o Chathar Singh, resident of New Delhi.
Koli(50), S/o Suraj, resident of New Delhi.
Two accused, Gulshan alias Gullu (26) and Deepak (28), both from Delhi, are absconding, with efforts underway to trace them.
A 14-year-old juvenile, Nithin, S/o Ravi Rathod, R/o New Delhi, was also apprehended, and stolen property was recovered.
A total of seven stolen gold chains weighing 232.75 grams, valued at Rs.17,00,000, were seized. Initial inquiries revealed the gang’s involvement in similar thefts nationwide.

The case was cracked by SI K. Laxminarayana and the Bhongir Town Crime Party, comprising G. Srinivas (HC-2149), B. Konda Reddy (PC-3335), and N. Ramesh (PC-4005). The Commissioner of Police has commended and rewarded the team for their efforts.
The Rachakonda police urge the publicto stay vigilant and avoid engaging with strangers offering suspicious deals or seeking assistance in public places. Never hand over valuables to unknown individuals.
