Rachakonda: Under the direction of Mr. D.S. Chauhan, IPS Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, the traffic police have launched a special drive against the use of irregular number plates and unregistered vehicles to prevent chain snatchings and other property offenses. A majority of offenders involved in such crimes use vehicles without proper registration or number plates. As of January 2023, 48,998 vehicles have been fined under the Motor Vehicle Act as part of this initiative.
Despite receiving the first challan, some vehicle riders continue to operate without proper registration. The traffic special enforcement teams have apprehended these offenders, and they are being charged under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicle Act. They are then produced before Hon’ble Special Courts, where they receive one to three days of simple imprisonment and fines ranging from Rs 3,000 to 5,000, along with two days of traffic community service. During this community service, they are required to stand at major junctions with placards that read “DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT REGISTRATION OF THE VEHICLES AND DO NOT DRUNK AND DRIVE.”
Vehicle owners are requested to register their vehicles within 30 days of purchase and ensure that the number plates adhere to MV Act rules. Symbols and quotes should not be added to the number plates, and they should not be covered with masks.
The convicted individuals include Masku Sai Kumar, Vangala Venkatesh, Gunaganti Srinivas, Patan Darvesh Khan, Y. Manjula, and Rasamalla Shiva, who have been fined varying amounts and sentenced to imprisonment or community service.
