The state has made the decision to revise the speed limits of vehicles on state roads, following the national notification. Below, you will find the updated speed limits and the corresponding speed limit brackets:
Permissible speed limits for vehicles up to 9 seats:
It will be 110 kmph on 6-lane national highways.
It will be 100 kmph (90 kmph) on 4-lane national highways, Other National Highways, and Main Corridors (M.C.).
It will be 90 kmph (85 kmph) on roads and 4-lane state highways.
It will be 80 kmph (80 kmph) on other state highways and major district roads.
It will be 70 kmph (70 kmph) on other roads.
It will be 50 kmph (50 kmph) on city roads.
Permissible speed limits for light-medium heavy motor passenger vehicles with more than nine seats:
It will be 95 kmph on 6-lane national highways.
It will be 90 kmph (70 kmph) on 4-lane national highways, Other National Highways, and Main Corridors (M.C.).
It will be 85 kmph (65 kmph) on roads and 4-lane state highways.
It will be 80 kmph (65 kmph) on other state highways and major district roads.
It will be mph (60 kmph) on other roads.
It will be mph (50 kmph) on city roads.
Permissible speed limits for light-medium heavy category goods vehicles:
It will be 80 kmph (70 kmph) on 6-lane and 4-lane highways.
It will be 70 kmph (65 kmph) on other national highways and 4-lane state highways.
It will be 65 kmph (60 kmph) on other state highways and major district roads.
It will be 60 kmph (60 kmph) on other roads.
It will be 50 kmph (50 kmph) on urban roads.
Considering the high incidence of road accidents involving two-wheelers, the maximum speed limit for these vehicles will be reduced from 70 kmph to 60 kmph. However, the existing maximum speed limit of 50 kmph will be retained for three-wheelers and school buses.
The decision to redefine the speed limits was reached following the implementation of cameras to monitor traffic. It is noteworthy that the current speed limits in the state were established in 2014.
