Nagapattinam: On January 9, 2024, a special operation was carried out in Nagapattinam to curb the sale and trafficking of bootleg liquor, following the directives of Mr. Harsh Singh, IPS, the Superintendent of Police for Nagapattinam District. Under the leadership of Sub Inspector Mr. Balamurugan, a dedicated task force executed a raid, resulting in the apprehension of key individuals engaged in the illicit trade of counterfeit alcohol. The primary suspects taken into custody include Shivamuthu (39) of Dr. Vaidhi, Pattamangalam, Kilvellur; Iyer Ngira Dhanapal (58) of Dr. Ponnusamy, Chikal; Patinettampadiyaan (43) of D/P Sakudevar, Tsunami Residence, Sellur; Eravancheri Selvam Ngira Selvam of Eravancheri, Kilvellur; and Charles (27) of T/P Thavamani, Kilvellur. Additionally, the driver (19) involved in liquor smuggling within the Kilvellur police station’s jurisdiction was apprehended. Mr. Ramesh from Puliyur was also arrested, and a two-wheeler was seized from him. Those found participating in the criminal activities of selling and trafficking counterfeit liquor will face charges under the Gangster Act.
