Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala June 4: In a significant step toward ensuring speedy and amicable resolution of civil and minor criminal disputes, the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police has launched the “Saamam” project, an initiative designed to prevent escalation of disputes through timely intervention and community-based legal support.
The project, spearheaded by the District Police Chief, Mr. Sudarshan K. S, IPS, focuses on disputes that fall outside direct police jurisdiction but have the potential to develop into criminal cases. Under “Saamam”, such issues will be addressed and resolved within a month through the leadership of specially trained lawyers and professional counselors.
The inauguration event was chaired by Mr. Sudarshan K. S, who emphasized the importance of proactive legal intervention and community participation in maintaining social harmony.
Mr. S. Shamnad, Senior Civil Judge and Secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA), delivered the keynote address, lauding the initiative as a model for preventive justice and accessible dispute resolution

The “Saamam” project reflects the growing emphasis on restorative justice and police-community collaboration, aiming to reduce case pendency, prevent crime, and promote peaceful coexistence.
