Mysore: The Mysore Police has gone a step ahead to conduct this year’s Mysore Dussehra safely and hassle-free. Thousands of people flock to Mysore to witness the glorious Dussehra. Law and order is a challenge in such a situation. Controlling those with criminal background waiting for such time is a matter of high pressure for the police.
In addition to stepping up surveillance, the police have come up with a smart solution to keep an eye on those with criminal backgrounds in the run-up to Dussehra. Same fingerprint scan!
Police are using fingerprint scanning to identify suspects roaming around the city. It is a challenge for the police to find out the identity of suspicious loiterers in the city and they have to conduct inquiries to get the details. Apart from that, after getting the details, the criminal records will have to be destroyed.
Now the Mobile-Crime & Criminal Tracking Network System (M-CCTNS) has a database of criminals and can scan a suspect’s fingerprint to check his criminal background.
If that particular person has a criminal background, the police will be alerted about the complete details including the case number.
Talking to The New Indian Express about this, Mysore City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta said that this equipment is being used in all police stations and is being given mainly to those on night shift.
As many as 5,920 suspicious persons were found loitering in the last one year, of which 160 fingerprints were matched to the database of previous crime cases.
