Kottayam: The Kottayam District Police issued security guidelines to the public to prevent theft and robbery during the week-long social security campaign called Safe Kottayam led by the Kottayam District Police Chief to ensure the safety of public life and property during monsoons.
Things to look out to prevent theft.
Neighbors should be informed when the house is locked and out. Police surveillance can be ensured by informing the police station that the house will be locked for more days and by registering on the portal Locked House Information in the POL-APP of the Kerala Police.
It should be suggested that newspaper, milk and post should not be given in cases where the house is locked for more days. Also the landline phone should be temporarily disconnected.
Care should be taken not to turn on the light in the house during the day.
Entrust the trustees to turn on and off the outside light and to safely pick up the newspaper, milk, and postal items.
Be sure to keep at least one family member at home when attending parties.
Each household should keep the phone number of the nearest house and inform the neighbors immediately if they notice any unusual noises such as babies crying or opening the tap water, and be sure to turn on the lights in the surrounding houses at night.
Before going to bed at night, make sure that the doors and windows of the house are locked.

Do not leave the door open and communicate with beggars, traders, acrobats, and nomads who arrive when no one is at home. Try to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
When building a new home, it is safe to open the front windows so that the entire front is visible and the front door does not open, talking to visitors through the window.
The front door of the house, the kitchen door and the door of the staircase room should be secured with iron bars.
Care should be taken not to leave the front door and kitchen door open during the day.
Weapons such as barbed wire and Picasso, which can be used to pierce a house, should not be stored outside the house for any reason.
If you come across any suspicious incidents or persons while traveling on public transport including buses, you should immediately inform the police. Do not buy snacks or food from strangers while traveling.
