Bengaluru: The High Grounds police have busted a Notorious gang who were cutting and selling sandalwood trees in the golf club premises in the heart of Bengaluru city.
Yes.. Highgrounds police of Bangalore city have arrested the notorious sandalwood thieves and have arrested 8 people including the gang leader from Tamil Nadu .
On August 1, two sandalwood trees were stolen from the golf complex. A tree was cut down and transported. But they escaped by cutting down another tree and leaving it there. A case was registered in this regard at High Grounds Police Station. Considering this case seriously, Inspector Shivaswamy formed a special team to trace the accused.
Police team that visited the place at first had calculated who might have committed the crime.. They interrogated the accused persons who had previously stolen sandalwood trees and returned to jail. Further to the investigation Inspector Shivaswamy, had got information that Govinda Swamy and team came to Bengaluru on August 1 . Later, 8 accused of that gang including Govindaswamy were arrested.
Bengaluru Highgrounds police arrested the leaders of this gang, Govindaswamy, Mada, Venkatesh, Ramachandra, Wasim Baig, Varadaraju, Ramachandrappa and Nanjegowda and seized 147 kg worth about 3 crores. Sandalwood oil and 730 kg Sandalwood Tree. . Out of the eight, five are from Tamil Nadu and the remaining three are from Karnataka. At present, 10 cases registered in different stations of the city have been discovered since the arrest of the accused. It has been found that these accused have committed their acts not only in the city but also in the forest.. This gang had gone to Bannerghatta forest and stayed for a week and targeted and felled the trees.
All the accused are stealing sandalwood trees regularly and have stolen sandalwood trees in Sadashivanagar, Jayanagar, Madiwala, KR Puram, Yeshavantpur, Kengeri. The sandalwood oil was seized from a sandalwood oil manufacturing factory in Madakashira, Andhra Pradesh, near Pavagada, Tumkur. Police said that the accused were selling sandalwood to the factory. Bengaluru Highgrounds police have registered a case.
