Meghalaya Police Announces Interview Schedule

CHENNAI, SEPTEMBER 8: Senior Police officials working in Tamil Nadu Police department welcomed the Supreme Court’s direction on Wednesday asking all States and Union Territories in the country to upload First Information Report (FIR’s) within 24 hours of registration, saying it would ensure a transparent process. Mr. Ragothaman, a former Superintendent of Police with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said, the move would ensure that the system is not misused by officials. He added, most officials hesitate to file the FIR immediately as the process is long, entailing filing of charge sheet within three months and trials by the appropriate courts. If there are delays, the officials get pulled up by the courts and higher authorities, he said. “Another thing is that police practice filing FIR after solving the case,” he alleged. In some cases Police are pressurized by influential persons or political parties or even district administration to avoid filing FIR citing various reasons,” he said. Already many police stations across Tamil Nadu have already been filing FIRs online, an ADGP officer who did not want to be named said. “We have been receiving online FIRs for the past four months. So far there has not been any negative feedback from the officials on this, the police personnel are being trained by the State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) on filing FIRs online’’, another senior Police official with the CB-CID said.
