Ernakulam Rural: The Ernakulam Rural District Police celebrated a significant achievement as Paravur Additional Sessions Court delivered a verdict of double life imprisonment for Biju Molla from Murshidabad, convicting him in the murder case of graduate student Nimisha Thambi. The meticulously prepared charge sheet, despite initial loopholes, was presented to the court within a remarkable 86 days, with approximately forty witnesses testifying. The court endorsed all charges brought forth by the prosecution, encompassing murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and trespassing.
The tragic incident unfolded on July 30, 2018, around ten in the morning, at Nimisha Thambia’s residence in Ambunad Anthinadu, within the jurisdiction of Tadiitta Paramb Police Station. During a robbery attempt, Biju Molla (44) fatally stabbed Nimisha Thambi, who courageously intervened when she witnessed Valiamma attempting to snatch her necklace. The assailant forcefully seized the knife from Nimisha, leading to her demise. Elias, Nimisha’s cousin, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion, also fell victim to the attacker, suffering multiple stab wounds.
The perpetrator managed to flee but was apprehended by the police near a villa under construction a few meters away. The initial investigation was spearheaded by PM Shamir, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tadiittaparam. The case transitioned from Tadiittaparam police to the Rural District Crime Branch. Under the guidance of DYSP KS Udayabhanu, SIs VM Nassar, TK Joshi, MG Vincent, Santhosh Baby, CP Asaynar, Abdul Jalil, Sr. CP O Maraya KB Prasad, Sarathkumar, Ravichandran, AR Jayan (Court), and others, the investigation unfolded. Public Prosecutor MV Shaji represented the prosecution in court.
