Siliguri: On 14.07.21, the Cyber Crime Police Station of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police received a written complaint from Meenakshi Yadav, Principal of Trishakti Army Pre-Primary Nursery School, Sukna alleging that a former employee had misappropriated the school’s funds.
As per the complaint, Abhishek Kumar Gupta s/o Kishore Prasad Gupta of Durganagar Colony, Gurung Busty, Pradhan Nagar, Siliguri is a former employee of her school where he worked in the capacity of an accountant-cum clerk. He worked for almost five years before resigning in March 2021. Gupta used to handle all financial transactions of the school.
When the corona pandemic forced a nationwide lockdown, Gupta created a QR code (Bhim UPI) in the name of Trishakti Army Pre-Primary School and linked it to his personal bank account, apparently with mala fide intentions.
When guardians deposited the school tuition fees of their wards through the QR code created by Gupta, the money went directly to his personal account. This misappropriation of funds surfaced when the school conducted an internal audit, whereupon it was found out that the accused had cheated the school of Rs.1.15 lakh.
Subsequently, a case was registered over the matter under Cyber Crime PS Case No. 106/21 dated 14.07.21 u/s 406/419/420 IPC.
The Investigating Officer collected enough material evidence on the case and arrested Abhishek Kumar Gupta on the charges of Criminal Breach of Trust, Impersonation, and Cheating.
He was presented before the Ld Court on Saturday (17.07.21) and has been placed under police remand for six days, for further investigation.
