Siliguri: A timely tip-off from a secret source has helped the Siliguri police in arresting a hardened drug peddler.
The Police personnel from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Mr. Rabindranath Sarkar, today detained Sekh Mostak Ahamed (22), S/o Late Sekh Abdul Sattar of Berugram, Chandidas Nagar, Birbhum District (presently residing in Lalgola, Sisharamjanpur, Murshidabad District ), near the out-gate of the Siliguri Central Bus Terminus as he was found carrying 110 grams of brown sugar.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed he had smuggled the contraband from Lalgola and had traveled to Siliguri by bus. He said he was to hand over the consignment to a local drug peddler in the Champasari area and that this was the third time he had brought such a packet. Police Officer Mr. Rabindranath Sarkar immediately arrested the suspect and seized the contraband packet.
A case under the NDPS Act has been duly initiated, and the accused will be presented before the Ld Court today, with a petition seeking his police remand.
