Dindigul, Tamil Nadu: In a decisive action against public distribution system fraud, the police team led by Nagar DSP Karthik apprehended Mohammed Shaban Seth (25) of Sikandar Sahib Street, Begumpur, for his involvement in ration rice smuggling. During the operation, 1,100 kilograms of ration rice were seized from his possession.
Following the seizure, the accused was handed over to the Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department (CSCID) for further legal action. A case was registered, and he was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
To curb his repeated involvement in such illegal activities and to protect public interest, based on the recommendation of the CSCID Madurai Zone Superintendent of Police Srinivasaperumal, the District Collector of Dindigul, Saravanan, invoked the Prevention of Goondas Act against the accused. Accordingly, detention orders were issued, and the accused was lodged in prison.
The prompt action by the police and civil administration has been widely appreciated for safeguarding essential commodities meant for the poor and ensuring strict enforcement against black-marketing and smuggling of ration rice.
