Srinagar: With the killing of Hizbul terrorists in the Shopian district of South Kashmir, 400 terrorists have been killed in separate encounters in nearly two years. This action has been taken during the tenure of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range Vijay Kumar. The 1997 batch IPS officer took over as the Kashmir Police chief on December 30, 2019, replacing SP Pani.
His first posting was as SDPO Ganderbal. Later he also took over as SP SOG Pulwama, SP Awantipora, SP Kulgam, SP Kupwara, SP Vigilance, DIG Traffic Kashmir, and DIG South Kashmir Range Anantnag.
He was prematurely repatriated from central deputation and posted as IGP Armed Kashmir before the abrogation of Article 370. Earlier, Vijay Kumar was also posted as Inspector General of Police Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) in CRPF.
Let us inform you that 171 terrorists were killed in 89 encounters last year. In this, 150 local terrorists and 21 foreign terrorists were killed. Meanwhile, 34 civilians were killed along with 29 police and other security forces personnel.
After the abrogation of 370, 439 terrorists were killed, the government said – 109 security personnel were also martyred
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in reply to a written question in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, 439 terrorists were killed while 109 security personnel were martyred in 541 encounters in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rai said that 98 civilians were also killed in these incidents and personal properties worth about Rs 5.3 crore were damaged. However, no significant public property was damaged during these incidents.
