Rachakonda, Telangana, October 10, 2025: In a major success against interstate narcotics smuggling, the Special Operations Team (SOT), Malkajgiri Zone, in coordination with the Keesara Police, busted a drug peddling racket and apprehended an accused involved in the transportation of Opium and Poppy Straw from Rajasthan to Hyderabad. The joint team seized 7 kg of Opium, 2 kg of Poppy Straw, and a mobile phone, all valued at approximately ₹1 crore, from the possession of the accused.
The accused has been identified as Lokesh Bareth (26 years), a resident of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, who was previously employed as a hotel manager. He, along with absconding associate Jagadish Gujjar, conspired to transport narcotic substances to Hyderabad, Chennai, and nearby areas for illegal sale.
Acting on credible information, the SOT Malkajgiri and Keesara Police teams apprehended Lokesh Bareth near Kundanpally ORR Rotary, within the limits of Keesara Police Station, while he was attempting to deliver the contraband to an unidentified receiver. The narcotics were found concealed in a leather bag and briefcase.
A case has been registered under Cr. No. 763/2025 U/s 17(c), 18(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985 at Keesara Police Station. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused, Jagadish Gujjar, and to identify other members involved in the supply chain.

The Rachakonda Police urge citizens not to engage in illegal activities and to actively support efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs. The consumption of Opium and other narcotics leads to severe health consequences including insomnia, mental depression, organ damage, and respiratory and cardiovascular issues.
Public are reminded that procuring, transporting, selling, or consuming narcotic substances is a serious criminal offence under the NDPS Act, punishable with imprisonment up to 10 years or even death penalty under Section 31A.
