Hyderabad City: The Hyderabad City Police, in collaboration with the Department of Education and National Service Scheme (NSS) students, has launched a unique initiative to enhance the safety of women and children in public places, particularly in shopping malls. On the occasion of Independence Day, this program was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, Mr. Kothakota Srinivasa Reddy, IPS, and Mr. Burra Venkatesham, Principal Secretary, Education Department.
The initiative involves female professional experts who will inspect various shopping malls for hidden or spy cameras, particularly in female changing rooms, washrooms, and toilets. If no such cameras are found, the location will be declared safe and secure. Periodic, random checks will be conducted in both large and small shopping areas. This ongoing effort aims to foster a safer environment for women and children.
NSS volunteers participating in the program will earn credits in their hour bank accounts. During the inauguration event, Commissioner of Police Mr. Kothakota Srinivasa Reddy highlighted the legal measures protecting citizens’ privacy, while Principal Secretary Mr. Burra Venkatesham emphasized the role of educational institutions in raising awareness about such crucial issues. The event featured a flash mob and dance performances to creatively engage the audience and underscore the importance of vigilance and safety.
Attendees included NSS volunteers, officials from the Education Department, members of the She Teams, NGOs, the Spy Camera Technical Team, and other officers from the Panjagutta Division. The program will continue until all malls and shops are thoroughly inspected and certified as safe from spy cameras. This collective effort aims to create a secure environment for women and children in public spaces.
