Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, January 1: To ensure public safety and maintain peace during New Year celebrations, the Srikakulam District Police conducted extensive checks across the district on the night of December 31. The proactive inspections were aimed at preventing road accidents and ensuring a secure environment for citizens.
During the special drive, police identified 36 cases of drunk driving and registered 15 cases of open drinking against individuals who created disturbances in public places. Acting on the directions of District Superintendent of Police Sri K. V. Maheshwara Reddy, IPS, multiple check posts were established across the district, and coordinated inspections were carried out in key locations, including major roads, towns, and rural areas. Traffic police and law and order personnel jointly participated in the operation.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Sri K. V. Maheshwara Reddy, IPS, emphasized that driving under the influence of alcohol poses a serious threat to lives and public safety. He stated that strict action is being taken against drunk driving and open drinking, and warned that violations of the law will invite inevitable legal consequences.
The District SP further informed that such special inspection drives will continue during upcoming festivals and urged the public to cooperate with the police by strictly following traffic rules.
