Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy said on Thursday that the absence of ADVOCATES to represent the accused in the acid attack case that created sensation in Bengaluru is a technical hurdle for the prosecution.

Talking to the media, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy said that if the accused is not represented by any Advocate. According to law, the case will not proceed and therefore the acid attack accused will not get bail. He said that the acid attack case has come to a standstill due to this technical barrier.

“If a lawyer represents the accused, the court proceedings will be faster and he will be punished sooner,” said the police commissioner.
The incident took place on April 28, 2022. The accused Nagesh, who was waiting in an autorickshaw near the place where the young woman was working, chased her and poured acid on her, causing 35% burns to the young woman.

The accused studied 10th standard in the same school with the victim. After rejecting the accused’s love, The PSYCO lover attacked her with acid. The police had submitted a 770-page charge sheet in the court in connection with the case.

The victim, a 23-year-old employee, was in a life-and-death struggle for months at the hospital.

The police have named 92 witnesses in the charge sheet filed in the 13th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. The investigators have also recorded the statements of two eye witnesses taken under IPC Section 164.

The Karnataka State Police formed 10 special teams to arrest the accused, who was absconding after the attack, as there was increasing pressure from all sides to arrest him. Finally, after 16 days the Kamakshipalya police arrested him in Thiruvannamalai city.
Accused Nagesh went missing and managed to escape from the police disguised as Swamiji.

The police also went to the ashram of the accused like devotees and observed it. After persistent efforts, they succeeded in getting his clue. When he tried to escape after being caught, the police shot him in the leg.
