Ludhiana: The Police’s Special Task Force (STF) team arrested three individuals in two separate cases after recovering a total of 2.88 kg of heroin from their possession. The accused were identified as Samardeep Singh alias Sam, 21, of Dr Ambedkar Colony, Jatin, 26, of Yamuna Nagar, and Gurpreet Singh, 35, of Phase 1 Mohali. The STF also impounded two cars that the accused were using to supply the contraband. The STF is still looking for a woman who is also allegedly involved in the drug supply.
The STF team acted on a tip-off and arrested Samardeep Singh while he was sitting in a Hyundai i-20 car near Shri Balmiki Temple near Ghora Colony. When the STF team frisked him, they recovered 1.32 kg heroin from his possession. The team also booked Samardeep’s wife, Simranjeet Kaur, in the case as she was also allegedly involved in supplying drugs.
Inspector Harbans Singh, who is in charge of the STF, said that Samardeep Singh had been supplying drugs to the city residents for the past two years and is already facing trial in a drugs-related case. Despite being married, Samardeep continued to supply drugs and enlisted his wife in the crime. He procured the heroin from a person in Division number 4 area.
Another STF team nabbed Jatin and Gurpreet following a tip-off, as they were heading towards Moga from Chandigarh in a Maruti Alto car. The STF team stopped them for checking near a private hospital on Chandigarh road and upon searching, recovered 1.56 kg of heroin from them. The accused revealed that they had been selling drugs for around four years and had procured the heroin from a Chandigarh-based woman.
The STF booked the accused under sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act at the STF police station in Mohali. The investigation is still ongoing to trace more persons involved in the supply chain.
The STF’s efforts to apprehend individuals involved in drug supply have intensified in recent years. The STF has been successful in arresting several individuals and seizing large quantities of drugs in their operations. The STF is committed to eliminating the drug menace and has urged citizens to come forward with information about drug peddling activities.
