Kottayam, Kerala: As part of intensified surveillance in connection with the Sabarimala Mandalakala festival and the upcoming local body elections, the Kottayam District Police continue to crack down on drug trafficking with firm action and prompt investigation.
On 28-11-2025, around noon, police personnel at Erumeli Devaswom Board parking ground questioned a youth from Thrissur who was behaving suspiciously. A thorough inspection led to the recovery of 3.32 grams of MDMA and 1 gram of ganja, which were kept for sale. The youth was immediately arrested and later produced in court, where he was remanded.
Similarly, on 29-11-2025 at 4.55 am, the Thrikkodithanam Police arrested another youth from the Manikanthavayal area for possession of 1.87 grams of MDMA, a highly dangerous synthetic drug believed to be kept for sale and use. He too was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
District Police Chief Shahul Hameed A. IPS has directed continuous surveillance, strict vehicle checks, and uncompromising action to prevent the sale and use of banned drugs across the district. The Kottayam Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety of the public and maintaining a drug-free environment, especially during the festival season.
