Kottayam, Kerala: As part of intensified surveillance in connection with the Sabarimala Mandalakala festival and the upcoming local body elections, the Kottayam District Police continue to crack down on drug trafficking with firm action and prompt investigation.

On 28-11-2025, around noon, police personnel at Erumeli Devaswom Board parking ground questioned a youth from Thrissur who was behaving suspiciously. A thorough inspection led to the recovery of 3.32 grams of MDMA and 1 gram of ganja, which were kept for sale. The youth was immediately arrested and later produced in court, where he was remanded.

District Police Chief Shahul Hameed A. IPS has directed continuous surveillance, strict vehicle checks, and uncompromising action to prevent the sale and use of banned drugs across the district.
