Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli: The District Superintendent of Police, N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., announced a significant reduction in road accident fatalities across Tirunelveli district, attributing the improvement to intensified road safety measures and public awareness campaigns.
In a press release, the SP stated that with the rising number of vehicles in the district, the police have ramped up efforts to promote road safety. This includes round-the-clock vehicle checks and strict enforcement against speeding and reckless driving.
Daily awareness initiatives are being carried out to educate motorists on the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, both through direct interaction and distribution of informative pamphlets. Additionally, the department has installed warning signs, flashing lights, speed breakers, and other safety features at accident-prone areas.
So far this year, the district police have conducted 268 road safety awareness programs. These combined efforts have resulted in a 48% drop in road accident deaths compared to the previous year, the SP said.
