Chennai: Tamil Nadu State DGP Mr. C. Shailendra Babu IPS has directed the police not to interrogate prisoners at night. They were told to move them to jail by six o’clock in the evening. The orders came a few days after a man named Vignesh, 25, died in custody. A few days ago, the police arrested an Auto coming at the Chennai Kellis junction and found marijuana and knives in the Auto. Vignesh, who came in an auto after seizing them, took his friend to the police station and interrogated him.
Vignesh suffering from fits while being interrogated by the police and was taken by the police to Keelpakkam Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The incident caused a stir across the state, with three police officers being dismissed from job by top officials for causing it. The case is being investigated by the CBCI. In this context, DGP Mr. C Shailendra Babu IPS directed the state police not to interrogate prisoners at night.
