Sivagangai: In response to the scorching summer heat affecting people across Tamil Nadu, particularly during Agni Nakshatra, authorities in Sivagangai District, specifically in Karaikudi Taluk, have collaborated with local organizations to alleviate the discomfort faced by motorists. Tarpaulin roofs have been installed across all three lanes near the Periyar Statue junction, a key intersection and signal point, aiming to provide shade for motorists awaiting signals. The inauguration ceremony took place today, with Karaikudi’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash, Managing Director of Pallathur Sri Visalam Chitfund Umapathi Arunachalam, and Chairman of Sornalakshmi Foundation Ganesh Pandian inaugurating the event. Deputy Superintendent Prakash expressed that this initiative, the first of its kind to benefit motorists at signal points, marks the beginning of further efforts to establish shelters and amenities with the support of charitable organizations. The event saw the participation of various stakeholders including Traffic Police Inspector Muthuramalingam, social activists such as lawyer Vimal and Sirala Madan, as well as members of the foundation. Additionally, saplings were distributed to the public as part of the occasion.
