Bengaluru: Five two-wheelers seized by the Madiwala traffic police have been stolen by unknown miscreants. When Traffic Officer Ramesh went to count the vehicles on June 9, four bikes and a scooter were found to be stolen.
These two-wheelers were impounded by the police for various traffic violations. As there was no space in the station, it was parked inside the compound of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) building adjacent to the police station.
The traffic police had stopped these vehicles there as the court proceedings in the traffic cases were yet to be completed. An official said that the accused must have committed the theft when there was no security guard at the gate of FSL. Police are not ruling out the possibility of insiders behind the theft.
“Such impounded vehicles can be returned after trial as directed by the court. Stolen two-wheelers involved in cases older than four years. Vehicles impounded for speeding and causing serious injury to others. “One in five cases is a fatal accident,” said an official who is part of the investigation.
Ravi Madiwala, sub-inspector of Madiwala traffic station, filed a complaint on Saturday. Police suspect that the theft may have taken place between May 25 and June 9. Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Access, Suzuki Hayate, Hero Honda Passion and Bajaj Pulsar two-wheelers worth around Rs 1.2 lakh were stolen.
‘We searched the surrounding areas for stolen vehicles. But, to no avail. “We are also checking the CCTV footage of the surrounding area,” said an officer who is part of the investigation.
