<![CDATA[In a joint operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Chennai Central Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 50 kg of ephedrine from 2 people worth over Rs. 3 crore. The contraband was hidden in a bag of wheat flour. According to the police, having received information that a few people were attempting to smuggle ephedrine, the NCB officers approached the RPF. They checked the air-conditioned compartments of the Howrah Mail around 11.45 p.m and intercepted two men, who were identified as Thamin Basha, 34, and Sate, 31. During the checking process the officers found smaller bags containing a white powder in the wheat flour bag, . An officer told“We found it to be ephedrine, which is used to manufacture methamphetamine, a widely abused party drug,”. The two are from Kancheepuram district. They were planning to take it to Kolkata and from there to Malaysia. An officer told“There is a huge demand for ephedrine in Malaysia for the manufacture of methamphetamine and this has led to an increase in attempts to smuggle ephedrine”.]]>
