THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pettah police on receiving a case from the father of a boy studying in the 10th standard, arrested two notorious criminals Arun alias Paratta Arun (33) and Rajesh alias Poocha Rajesh(34), who assaulted the boy on Saturday.
The accused are Puthanpalam residents and are members of the notorious gang led by criminal Dini Babu. Police said the two criminals barged into the teen’s residence at Oolankuzhi near Anayara on Friday night and took him to a deserted spot along the national highway near Chackai and flogged him with wooden sticks. The boy who was rescued from the bushes by the police, where the criminals left him after attacking, is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital after his arms and backbone were fractured. The criminals attacked the boy as they suspected that he had stolen Arun’s mobile phone.
Pettah SI Mr. P Ratheesh said that the boy was alone at home when the accused abducted him. The boy’s parents were earlier separated and the boy lived with his father at Puthanpalam. The house at Oolankuzhi was given on rent by his father to hold a liquor party with his friends. He occasionally sends his son here to sleep at this house.
SI Mr. Ratheesh said that the accused were the father’s friends and on Thursday, they had conducted a party at the house after which Arun’s phone went missing. Arun suspected that the boy had taken his mobile phone. He said that the accused, after attacking the boy, left him in the bushes near the highway. Fortunately, the boy had his phone using which he sent a voice note to his father, who in turn alerted the police.
In another case the criminals, Arun and Rajesh are the first and third accused in the murder of Vishnu(19) from Puthanpalam which took place in July 2016. Vishnu was a close aide of another notorious gangster Puthanpalam Rajesh, who happened to be a rival of Dini Babu.
